Our Ministries

Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren partners with many ministries because, as they say, "Many hands make light work," and there is a lot of work to be done to bring love, healing, peace and justice to people. Please take time to pray for each of these wonderful organizations, make time to volunteer for them, and bless them with both financial contributions and word-of-mouth advertising.

  • bcmPEACE (formerly known as Brethren Community Ministries). bcmPEACE provides referral services, outreach, Agape-Satyagraha conflict resolution training for youth, computer classes, parenting classes (in partnership with Samara), oversees food distribution (in partnership with Harrisburg Food Ministry), offers a Kids Club for neighborhood children, and some housing.
  • Brethren Housing Association (BHA). Their mission is to provide "a holistic program of secure housing, supportive services, and loving relationships, Brethren Housing Association helps homeless and low-income individuals and families achieve their God-given potential."
  • Heeding God's Call (Harrisburg Chapter). Heeding God's Call is a nationwide collective seeking ways to end gun violence, a problem that plagues our city.  We unite people of faith in the sacred responsibility to protect our brothers, sisters and children. We believe it is vital to stand up and reclaim streets and neighborhoods where violence is taking place. Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren is home base for our regional chapter of this organization.
  • Camp Swatara. A Christian camping and retreat facility open year-round for individuals, families, organizations, schools, and churches.
  • Atlantic Northeast District (Church of the Brethren). Our congregation belongs to a geographic region of Church of the Brethren congregations spanning central PA eastward and northeast up to New England and New York. We are a mission church and are therefore mutually supportive of (and supported by) our district.
